Metcal soldering irons use a Curie Point tip to regulate temperature.
The Power Supply provides constant HF signal to a coil in the Hand-piece.
The RF supplied to the handpiece produces eddy currents in the tip when it is below its Curie Temperature.
Once the tip reaches the Curie Temperature it no longer converts the HF signal heat.
This provides tight temperature regulation and prevents over-temp conditions.
Metcal station, PS900
Workstand, Auto Sleeper
The tip cools down when in this stand, so it lasts longer. It takes just a
few seconds to return to operating temperature.
PS900 Replacement Tips
0.5mm 330C tip, low temperature
1.0mm 390C tip, normal temperature
2.5mm 450C tip, high temperature
