Minutes of the monthly meeting of the Iowa City Amateur Radio Club, held Wednesday, February 9, 2022, 7:00 PM, at the Pizza Ranch in Iowa City, Iowa
The Iowa City Amateur Radio Club needs to ascertain its status with the Internal Revenue Service. An organization such as ICARC needs to register with the IRS to obtain tax-exempt status. This requires obtaining an Employer Identification Number (EIN), even though ICARC is not an employer. A member said that ICARC already has an EIN, and that ICARC is classified under 501c4 of the IRS’s categories, NOT 501c3. A 501c4 organization, according to the IRS, is more for social purposes and less for educational purposes. Member John Nichols, KFØHES, volunteered to look for ICARC’s EIN and status on the IRS website.
ICARC has a registered agent with the Iowa secretary of state; our agent is Kyle. The registered agent receives a notice from the Iowa secretary of state, saying that the organization he/she represents is still recognized by the state. A suggestion was made to have the same ICARC member act as both agent and trustee. The registered agent receives official correspondence from the state. An email about the state records will be sent to member William Robison, KCØJFQ, about the state records. William Robison will look for the necessary paperwork for a change in the registered agent.
ICARC needs a new EchoLink node number. Member John Kauble, KØGH, is making progress on this.
Member David Christ, KØLUM, will send information about the registered agent.
Member Brian Zeman, KFØBXT, gave a presentation on system fusion repeaters.
Respectfully submitted,
John Nichols, KFØHES, ICARC secretary
